In chapter 9, verses 7-8 of Bhagvad Geeta, Shree Krishna explained that on the completion of Brahma’s life of 100 years (311 trillion 40 billion earth years), the entire cosmic manifestation dissolves and goes into an unmanifest state. The pañch mahābhūta merge into the pañch tanmātrās; the pañch tanmātrās merge into ahankār; ahankār merges into mahān; mahān merges into prakṛiti, the primordial form of the material energy; and prakṛiti goes and rests in the divine body of the Supreme Lord, Maha Vishnu.
May the corpus of spiritual literature from India hand you a gift of ancient wisdom!
“Personality” is a subject of study beyond socio-ethnic boundaries. To this study, the ancient wisdom has a lot to offer. From Indian Philosophy to Ayurveda, “Personality” has been put up as a facade of mind and body.
In Indian Philosophy, the mind is described as “Antahkaran". It refers to the mental body (literally means – internal organ). It includes – two levels as Higher and Middle levels; and the link between these levels.
There are four parts of “Antahkaran”. The first part is “Buddhi” or intellect at the higher level. The other parts are “Manas” or mind, “Ahamkara” or ego and “Citta” or consciousness at the Middle levels.

The “Ahamkara” or ego has qualities of Sattva (harmony), Rajas (dynamic) and Tamas (inert/inactiveness), collectively called “Trigunas”. Rajas and Tamas combine to become “Tanmantra” (energy quanta) while Sattva and Rajas combine to form “Indriyas” (sense and motor organs).
The Tanmantra produce “Pancha Mahabhuta” (Five elements). “Pancha Mahabhuta” and “Indriyas” together form the world and all the living beings.
The five elements in Pancha Mahabhuta combine to form humors, namely Vata (regulates the bodily activities), Pitta (controls digestion, metabolism, and hormones that are linked to appetite) and Kapha (governs the structure of the body). These are the “Tridoshas”. This emerges as the cornerstone of Ayurvedic philosophy.
In Ayurveda, “Personality” is presented from theoretical and empirical grounds to develop a scientific and elemental testing procedure and categorization.
It develops theory and methodology for assessment of “Prakriti”. “Prakriti” is a manifestation of “Trigunas” and “Tridoshas”.
As Ayurveda describes, in accordance with the Indian philosophy, Triguna is the psychological and Tridosha is the physiological aspect of mind and body.
The “i-Persona test” examines the personality types through the behavioral aspects of these qualities and humors.
- Sattva determines harmony, balance, optimism, and constructiveness.
- Tamas determines negative thinking patterns, ignorance, and imbalances in temperament.
- Rajas determines the need for achievement, will-power, ego, and individualization.
- Vata determines movement, energy, creativity, and flexibility
- Pitta determines reasoning, understanding, and logical analysis
- Kapha determines stability, temperament, good memory, care and love.
The different combinations of the Trigunas and Tridoshas together produce various effects on body and mind. Through these combinations, the traits and types of personality described in Ayurveda globalize the understanding of human behavior.
These six humors and qualities as combinations are measured in the “i-Persona Test” to know your Triguna and Tridosha personality types.

THE INTERLINKS BETWEEN TRIDOSHAS AND TRIGUNAS
The Prakriti is made up of Trigunas- Sattva, Rajas, and Tamas. The Trigunas consist of an amalgamation of Tridoshas- Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. All living beings have the combination of Tridoshas but there is one dominant Tridosha.
The functioning of the Prakriti is the manifestation of interactions between Trigunas and Tridoshas.
